Scientists Have Created The World’s Smallest Mini Drone With Battery
Researchers from the Laboratory of modular robotics, University of Pennsylvania have developed the most compact mini drone, carrying on board the UAV power source in the world.
According to N + 1 , an unmanned aerial vehicle called Piccolissimo monokopter is asymmetrical with a rotating body made using the 3D-printing.
In flight, the propeller rotates at a speed of 800 revolutions per second, and the enclosure drone – at up to 40 revolutions per second.
The operator controls the drone with an infrared remote control, and by changing the rotational frequency changes direction Piccolissimo movement.
Researchers have created two versions of the drone, comparable in size with a coin 25 cents. The diameter of the first model is about 2.5 cm, weight – 2.5 g larger, more maneuverable version Piccolissimo has a diameter of 3.5 cm, and its weight is 4.5 g. The developers note that the drone design uses from mass-produced electric toy quadrocopters, so in the future drone can be made even more compact.
